Kyoto Itinerary
Monday, March 8
Your Kyoto adventure begins in style as we depart Tokyo aboard the legendary Shinkansen (bullet train), renowned for its speed, comfort, and seamless efficiency. As the train glides past stunning countryside, keep an eye out for a possible peek at majestic Mt. Fuji—clouds permitting!
Upon arrival into Kyoto Station, you will have time for lunch on your own before we head out on our half-day cultural tour .
Our private tour of Kyoto’s highlights will allow you to experience the most notable of Kyoto’s cultural sights – the serene Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, the tranquil Ryoan-ji Temple and the mesmerizing Kinkaku-ji Temple appropriately nicknamed, the Golden Pavilion. We’ll even take you to a little known bamboo forest tucked away in the quiet hills of Arashiyama at the Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple where thousands of stone statues and a bamboo-fringed path evoke a deep sense of peace and reverence.
After the conclusion of our tour, we’ll check into our home for the week: the beautifully appointed DoubleTree by Hilton Higashiyama where you can relax for the remainder of the day. Dinner is on your own.

Tuesday, March 9
Today’s guided walking tour will take you deep into Kyoto’s most picturesque and culturally rich districts. We’ll begin in the charming Gion Shirakawa area, where willow-lined canals and traditional wooden machiya homes offer a glimpse of Kyoto’s timeless elegance. From there, we’ll stroll through tranquil Maruyama Park, a favorite cherry blossom spot, before standing in awe beneath the grand Chion-in Sanmon, one of Japan’s largest temple gates.
Next, we’ll pass the iconic Yasaka Pagoda, one of Kyoto’s most photographed landmarks, before meandering along the historic Ninen-zaka and Sannen-zaka slopes—cobblestone streets lined with shops and teahouses. Our journey culminates with a visit to Kiyomizu-dera, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its sweeping views over the city from its wooden stage. A day filled with history, architecture, and scenic beauty—this is Kyoto at its most captivating.
After enjoying lunch on your own, the group will be treated to a truly special experience: a private tea ceremony led by an authentic Geisha or geisha in training. She will not only guide us through the graceful ritual of tea preparation, but also perform for us and offer time for questions and photos—a rare and intimate encounter that will leave a lasting impression of Kyoto’s living traditions.
In the evening, you can partake in an add-on Kyoto Foodie Tour or venture out for dinner on your own.

Wednesday, March 10
We’ll start the day by heading over to Fushimi Inari Taisha one of Kyoto’s most iconic and visually striking landmarks, famous for its seemingly endless path of vibrant vermilion torii gates that wind through a sacred forest up Mount Inari. Dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice and prosperity, the shrine is guarded by fox statues, believed to be messengers. Whether you hike to the summit or simply stroll through the lower trails, Fushimi Inari offers a magical, spiritual experience that blends tradition, nature, and breathtaking beauty.
From there, we’ll head into the heart of Kyoto on a host-guided walk through the lively Nishiki Market, affectionately known as “Kyoto’s Kitchen.” Take your time to explore the stalls, savor local delicacies, and enjoy lunch at your leisure.
As evening falls, we’ll step into the mystique of old Kyoto on a guided Geisha Night Walking Tour through the lantern-lit alleys of Pontocho and Gion. With stories and insights from our local expert, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of Kyoto’s geisha culture—and if we’re lucky (as we have been in years past), catch a glimpse of a geisha, gaiko as they are referred to in Kyoto, on her way to an evening engagement. It’s a truly magical way to experience the heart and heritage of Kyoto.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Kyoto Extension trip ends on Thursday morning, March 11th in Kyoto. Triumph Sports Travel does not transfer guests to their departure airport after we conclude the Kyoto extension option. Kyoto is serviced by the airports in Osaka or you may elect to take the bullet train back to Tokyo if you prefer to book your flights in and out of one of the Tokyo airports (plan on three hours of train travel for Haneda and four hours for Narita).
Please plan accordingly when making flight arrangements home. We suggest you arrive at your departure airport at least three hours before your scheduled departure time. For that reason, we don't recommend a morning flight if you are returning via Tokyo as there would not be sufficient time to travel back to a Tokyo airport after hotel check-out.
You can also book your arrival into Tokyo and departure out of one of the Osaka Airports – Itami Osaka International Airport (ITM) (approx. 45 minutes from Kyoto) or Kansai International Airport (KIX) (approx. 90 minutes from Kyoto).
